Huw, London

"Thank you for the help and tools you have given (my partner) and I. You have really helped us and we both feel great appreciation. Personally, the one solo session that I had with yourself gave me more help than the 6 or so I had via the NHS earlier this year. I connected with what you had to advise and it has helped me on a personal level as well as with my relationship with (my partner). Thank you again Rhys. All the best and take care."

How does video call counselling work?

Since the pandemic counsellors and their clients have experienced the convenience and effectiveness of video call counselling - this is also called teletherapy.

Over 95% of my clients now attend their counselling sessions via a video call.

You can use Whatsapp, Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams for your video call sessions.

Once you have purchased a session online I'll email a link to the video call meeting you can use on the day.

As long as you have a laptop, or phone, or a smartphone, there's an option for you that won't cost you any extra expense.

If you need any help please contact me and I'll help you prepare for a video call.

What is the cost of couples therapy in the UK?

My couples therapy costs £36 for a 25 minute introductory video call session for 1 or 2 people via Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp, and Google Meet. During an introductory session you can find out more about my relationship counselling and I'll provide you with a detailed counselling plan afterwards.

Alternatively you can start with a longer 50 minute standard video call session for 1 or 2 people. This kind of relationship therapy costs £72 and is available across the UK via Zoom, WhatsApp, Teams, and Google Meet. This is the Love Heart Indicating Most Popular Session Choice MOST POPULAR choice for most of my new clients.

Alternatively if you prefer in-person sessions my face-to-face marriage counselling costs £139 for a 50 minute session for 1 or 2 people. My premises are based near Blackwood, South Wales, UK.

What if my partner doesn't want couples counselling?

Start couples counselling without your partner.

You'll learn a lot about how to improve your relationship.

I've found people who start counselling on their own will soon find their partner will want to join them.

In a relationship, if one person changes, the couple has changed.

I don't know if I want to stay in the relationship?

Sometimes you're just not sure whether you want to stay in an unhappy relationship or to separate.

I often work with individuals or couples to help clarify their feelings and help them to make the best decision for their futures.

I can help you to improve your relationship, or work with you to ensure that any separation is amicable and dignified.

Do you provide couples counselling near Cardiff, South Wales?

If you're searching for 'couples therapy in South Wales', 'marriage counselling near me', or 'couples counselling near me', I offer face-to-face sessions at my premises in Blackwood.

If you need relationship counselling in Cardiff, marriage counselling near Newport, or couples counselling near Swansea or couples therapy near Bristol I'm not that far away.

My local relationship therapy takes place in a timber cabin in my Japanese-style garden with a view into woodland in the summer and a log-burner for the winter. This provides a relaxing setting that allows you to step away from the outside world and focus upon resolving any concerns that you may have.

So whether it's local relationship counselling in Caerphilly County Borough you need, marriage counselling near Cwmbran, or couples counselling only 25 minutes from Merthyr Tydfil or marriage guidance near Pontypridd I'm just up the road.

Is your therapy confidential and private?

I work independently so this limits the danger that your personal information will be passed on to anyone else.

The relationship therapy I provide is confidential and compliant with data privacy requirements. Our conversations are private and will never be recorded, either electronically or manually.

What are your qualifications and accreditations?

I qualified as a counsellor 21 years ago with a post-graduate diploma in counselling skills from the University of South Wales. I then obtained a Master of Science degree with distinction from Cardiff University in 2011.

My qualifications have been verified by the Psychology Today website, you can view my profile here.

I'm now a therapist in private practice specialising in marriage guidance, couples therapy and relationship counselling - different names for the same kinds of therapy.

As I don't work in the public sector I am no longer a member of the BACP. As an author and senior practitioner I no longer require supervision - I now work independently.

I'm the author of the books 300 Ways To Improve Your Relationship and Infidelity - A survival guide.

You can view my Amazon author profile here.

What's your approach to couples counselling?

My couples therapy approach is heavily influenced by the work of John Gottman and Julie Gottman. They are psychological researchers, authors and relationship therapists who have undertaken extensive research into what makes relationships last.

There is behaviour that will destroy a relationship and there is behaviour that will make a relationship last. The relationship therapy that I provide can assist you to identify unhelpful behaviours in your relationship. I can also help you to learn the positive behaviours that help make a relationship happy and long-lasting.

The marriage counselling and relationship guidance I provide can help you to learn how to process regrettable incidents in the past, to resolve conflict, to improve communication, and to manage other problems in your relationship.

My main aim is to listen carefully to what you both have to say and carry out a thorough survey-based assessment of the issues within your relationship. I then put together a clear counselling plan that will help you to improve your relationship.

I'm anxious about starting relationship counselling.

If you're searching for couples counselling then there is probably some unhappiness in your relationship.

How long do you want that to continue before contacting professional help?

It's natural to be nervous about starting relationship counselling, but once you've started the process you'll soon begin to relax and wonder why you were concerned.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. You can call, text, WhatsApp, me on 07913 144285.
